Keep your laundry legal

WHILE clothes hanging out to dry outside properties here in Spain is a common sight, in many places this practice is actually prohibited. All of the largest cities (Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia) have laws that say you cannot hang out washing where it is visible from the street. So, while many roof terraces would be ok many wall-mounted clothes horses and balconies are prohibited from this, something that varies from town to town. In practice it is rarely enforced although is likely to be if someone makes a complaint.  Items such as flags do not fall foul of this law as the article in question specifically states “laundry and clothing.”
