Friends TV favourite during coronavirus lockdown

DESPITE filming its last episode over a quarter of a century ago, the sit-com “Friends” still has an ardent following, not just among people that enjoyed it at the time but from a generation that weren’t even born in 1994 when the long running series ended. During the current crisis it has grown even further if that was possible, with many turning to the harmless comfort of what they know and love in troubling times. The young adult tribulations of New Yorkers Ross, Rachel, Monica, Joey, Phoebe and Chandler fits the bill perfectly and an expert on these things has estimated that at any given time, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, a TV channel somewhere is showing a “Friends” repeat. A one off reunion episode due to be filmed this spring has been postponed to the disappointment of fans – but in the meantime there are still 236 episodes to watch again. Just don’t talk about the doomed spin-off, “Joey”.
