Try some cultural sofa surfing
THE lockdown period has been a good time to catch up on the latest Netflix blockbusters or hone your skills on the gaming console of your choice – but for something a bit more educational there is an enormous range of virtual online tours that you can take of museums, art galleries, zoos and even theme parks. Museums and galleries are empty apart from the staff at the moment so you can feel like you have the place to yourself, especially if you’re wearing a good VR headset. The Louvre, Guggenheim, Smithsonian, Van Gogh, Getty, NASA and MOMA are among the dozens offering tours, most of them free.
Zoos are seeing shyer animals spending more time out of their cages due to the absence of visitors. Try the live “Panda Cam” at Atlanta Zoo, the aqua camera at Georgia Aquarium or the multiple live feeds at San Diego Zoo. You can take a virtual tour of Walt Disney World Florida, including a rollercoaster ride, some of them still in testing phase. Also in Florida, there is SeaWorld and LEGOLAND, both ideal for thrill seekers unable to get their fix at home. Who knows – if you see somewhere you like the look of you may go there in the real world when the current situations is over?
