Salvador Illa Spains Health Minister announced the conditions under which outdoor activites can take place from Saturday May 02. You may go out for walks and exercise but with conditions and time allocated to different age groups.
When it was announced that people would be allowed to exercise from this weekend May 02 you could hear the sigh of relief and hope from the citizens who apart from a shopping trip here or there were confined to their homes since March 14. But it not as straight forward as that I'm afraid, a further announcement from Spain's health minister Salvador Illa on Thursday 30 April set out the conditions of the relaxation of the stage 0 rules of lockdown.Spanish health authorities on Thursday announced new rules for outdoor activity for long-confined citizens, and the time slots when each of these outings will be allowed. The announcement was the latest in the ongoing relaxation of Spain’s coronavirus confinement measures, which have been in place since March 14 and are among the strictest in the world.
Starting at 6 am Saturday, May 02 until 10 am, adults may go out for individual exercise once a day, without making contact with third parties, and within their own municipality of residence with no distance limit. During these times any kinds of sports activities are allowed as long as they are practised individually.
The minister then stated that adults may also go out on one-hour walks, either alone or with one other member of their household, as long as they remain within a one-kilometer radius of their home.
It is at this point, the confusion starts to sets in, is it A or B? within ones own municipality of residence with no distance limit only for individual exercise or is it to remain within a one-kilometer radius of ones home? The statement then goes on to explain that both of these activities must take place between 6am and 10am, or between 8pm and 11pm.
During the last week, since last Sunday 26 April children were allowed out for one hour a day with an adult. No time frame was set as a condition to this activity, until now as part of the rules to allow adults out for exercise. It will now have to take place between 12pm and 7pm.
For seniors aged 70+ or anyone who needs to go out with a career are allocated their own time slots of 10am to 12pm and 7pm to 8pm.
The final part of these conditions set out are that municipalities with fewer than 5,000 residents, are free to carry out the activites at any time so therefore none of the time slots will apply.
One trip outside a day will be allowed for each person.
Illa also announced another relaxation of the confinement measures on Thursday: people will be allowed to tend to their agricultural products in gardens or allotments, on a non-professional basis. This must be done individually unless the person in question is accompanied by a dependant or a child.
Illa said that all of the conditions for trips outside the home would be confirmed on Friday, but that the final details were still being added.
