New attractions for Volta

running
THE annual Volta a Peu running race in Javea is scheduled for 23 February and there are plenty of additional things for people to do leading up to that. From now until the race day there is an exhibition called “Medusas” (Jellyfish) at Ca Lambert, artworks made from recycled plastic collected from the sea to help raise awareness of the importance of recycling and not dumping rubbish in the sea. On 18 February a new book about pastry cooking in the Marina Alta by the areas cultural association will be presented at the Old Town library at 7.30 pm. The next day at Duanes Library there will be a talk about sustainable development goals at 7 pm. The highlight for many will be the releasing of turtles by the Oceanografic Foundation at the Arenal beach on 22 February, starting at 11 am. On the day of the race itself, there will be a kid’s workshop on recycling at the Palau d’Esports as well as an exhibition with an environmental theme titled “Art against Pollution”. Continuing with the green message, the race itself will be using no plastic water bottles for the first time and all snacks will be home-made locally rather than in factories. This year around 1,500 adults and 500 children are expected to take part in the Volta. See www.somesport.com for more information and to register.
