Spanish house sales rose by five per cent in February, compared to the same month a year earlier, according to official Land Registry figures, with a big rise in Murcia, but a drop in the Costa Blanca region.

The property market has shown rises every February for the last five years, according to figures from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), based on statistics from the Land Registrars’ Association.

But, the rate rise was was the second lowest since the property market regained traction after the recession, with a number of dramatic regional variations.

Huelva province in Andalucia showed a big hike of 56 per cent, whilst closer to home, the Murcia region, popular with British and foreign buyers, logged a 27 per cent rise in purchases.

Valencia City showed a 13 per cent hike, with Barcelona up by 10 per cent.

In contrast, the Costa Blanca area registered a 10 per cent fall in February, whilst down south, the Costa del Sol fell by three per cent.

Figures from the Association of Notaries based on sales witnessed by them during February show sales up by three point two per cent and prices up by nought point seven per cent.
