Back to the 60s
THE Alicante University Museum (MUA) is currently holding an exhibition about the huge boom in Latin American literature in the 1960s. Many of the most important books in the age of modern literature were written in this period by authors such as Mario Vargas, Julio Cortazar and Gabriel Garcia Marquez whose “One Hundred Years of Solitude” is perhaps the best known. The phenomenon came about for a number of different reasons, the huge global and social changes taking place and increased freedom of thought against a weakening of the power of the Catholic Church being the chief amongst them.
The exhibition is open to the general public until 15 March and includes first editions, signed books, original newspapers from the period, photographs and personal items belonging to some of the authors. The MUA is located on the UA campus (San Vicente del Raspeig) and can be reached on the C-3 train or by bus. For more information go to www.mua.ua.es
