LAST Thursday, King Mohamed VI welcomed Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez to his royal house in Sale for an Iftar lunch.

Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, Prince Moulay Rachid, Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch, Advisor to the King Fouad Ali El Himma, and Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita were also present.

The Spanish delegation included Jose Manuel Albares, the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Ricardo Diez-Hochleitner, the Spanish Ambassador to Rabat.

On Thursday, Morocco's Head of Government, Akhannouch, on arrival at Rabat-Sale airport, received his Spanish counterpart.

"The tour that Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez is presently on in our country provides an opportunity to reassert the strengths of the historic, political, economic, and cultural links that connect our kingdoms," Akhannouch wrote on Facebook.

Sanchez's visit follows the king's invitation over the phone on March 31st, and it signals the conclusion of a diplomatic crisis between Rabat and Madrid.

Spain's government has publicly expressed its support for Morocco's Sahara autonomy plan, calling it the most realistic and serious attempt to resolve the conflict.

The conclusion of diplomatic hostilities between the two nations over the last year was highlighted by Spain's support for Morocco's autonomy plan, paving the way for a new chapter of relations between the two countries.

Earlier today, at a meeting with the king, Sanchez reaffirmed his country's position. They also agreed to work on enhancing bilateral ties between Rabat and Madrid and to develop a roadmap for future cooperation.

During the visit, Spain's Foreign Affairs Minister Jose Manuel Albares is set to meet with his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita in addition to Sanchez's meetings with King Mohamed VI.

Albares had previously voiced optimism about the two countries relations, describing them as "at a new level."
