New cruise ship will sail direct from Ireland to Spain

Brittany Ferries has announced the launch of the ship, which will ferry passengers from the southeastern tip of Rosslare to Bilbao twice a week.

The Salamanca can carry more than 1,000 passengers from Europort, and can carry bicycles, pedestrians and dogs.

The 214.5-meter ferry takes over the direct route from Rosslare to Bilbao twice a week on Wednesday and Friday mornings.

The transit lasts 29 to 30 hours, with passengers spending one to two nights on board. Passengers will arrive in Bilbao, a city in northern Spain.

Spanish cuisine is served at the ferry's Azul and Taberna de Tapas restaurants. The ship also features a children's playroom, a boutique and an exclusive lounge.

A one-way ticket for two passengers and a car should start at €232. For cabins, fares start at €342 per route.

There are 343 cabins, 22 of which are specially designed for passengers with dogs for an extra cost.

Named after the historic Spanish city of elegant sandstone buildings, Salamanca has a main bar inspired by the city's central square.
