WHILE crime (other than confinement infringements) has generally reduced during the lockdown, nationally there has been a big rise in motoring offences. Speeding has seen something like an 80% increase, due largely to the near empty roads. Denia saw one of the country’s biggest ever speeding infringements this week when a man was arrested for driving a brand-new Mercedes ML at 200 km/h on the CV-725 which has a limit of 80. The driver was just 21 and, as is often the case now with such offences, he filmed it for social media bragging of his “crazy feat”. This proved to be his downfall as the Local Police were able to trace the car and the driver, a Bulgarian national who has been arrested and charged with road safety crimes.
