Octogenarian expatriate death was probable suicide

THERE was an outpouring of grief and sympathy after an 84 year old British woman, a long term resident of Javea, jumped off a bridge in the town in what now appears to be a case of suicide. Witnesses, including staff at the “Weekender” office in the Marina Alta town, saw several police cars and firemen race to the port at around 7.00 on Tuesday evening, followed quickly after by two ambulances.

The Guardia Civil later confirmed that an 84 year old Briton had jumped off the bridge at Avenida de Augusta and added that she had almost certainly intended to take her own life. She lived close to the spot where she died and had done so for several years, the spokesperson said. Local expatriates and Spaniards alike expressed their sadness on social media.
