MIXED PICTURE

SUNDAY´S municipal elections provided good news for both the Partido Popular(PP) and the PSOE Socialists across the Vega Baja and Mar Menor areas.   The PP seized control of Pilar de la Horadada from the PSOE, which means that José María Pérez will become the new mayor.   The PP recorded overall majorities in Redován, Bigastro, Albatera, Cox, Formentera del Segura and Benijófar.   The PP and PSOE both increased their representation on Santa Pola council, and it will remain to be seen whether the PSOE coalition led by Yolanda Seva will remain in charge, whilst a similar situation beckons in Elche, with both the PSOE and PP getting more councillors.   The PSOE will continue to run Guardamar, after getting the majority of seats on the council, compared to their previous minority-led position, whilst they squeaked in by one seat to continue in charge in Rojales.   They also secured majorities in Algorfa, Jacarilla, San Isidro, Benferri, Dolores, Rafal and Los Montesinos, and have replaced the PP as being the largest party in San Miguel de Salinas, whilst the PP are have the most councillors in Almoradi and Callosa.   The PP resisted strong challenges as they kept their overall majority of just one seat in both San Javier and San Pedro del Pinatar, whilst Benejúzar and Catral are set for complex negotiations as to who actually takes control.   Ciudadanos will run Daya Nueva and Granja de Rocamor whilst Compromis will take over in Daya Vieja.
