Giving the gift of sight

IN poorer parts of the world bad eyesight can sometimes be a matter of life and death and often means total dependence on friends or family. The charity organisation Hahatay, which develops co-operation between Spain and Senegal, is collecting old glasses for sending off to the West African country with 20 businesses in Javea taking part. They all have collection points where unwanted glasses can be dropped off and eventually sent out to Senegal, where something that would have sat forgotten in a drawer could transform someone’s life.   The collection points are open until September and while most of them are opticians there are also other outlets as well as some council offices. For more information, contact Vicen Bolufer on 606 554 208.  In the same initiative last year over 400 pairs of glasses were collected and distributed.
