SEVERAL classrooms at the Dama de Guardamar school were destroyed by fire in the early hours of Friday morning.
Pupils aged between three and eleven were forced to see out the rest of their pre-Easter lessons in council buildings between Monday and Wednesday.
Firefighters from Almoradi, Orihuela, and Torrevieja put out the blaze which started at around 2.00 am, as a number of prefabricated rooms were raised to the ground.
The cause of the fire is believed to be an electrical fault, with the buildings erected as a temporary measure nine years ago, with a new school set to be built in the SUP-7 area of the Guardamar municipality.
The project is in the Valencian government budgets for 2019, with Guardamar education councillor Pilar Gay saying that drafting work for the building in the SUP-7 area had been completed and that she hoped that a tender announcement “would be imminent soon”.
