Around a dozen local animal charities will be represented at the annual adoption day, taking place this coming Sunday in L’Alfas del Pi.
Now, in its fifth year, the festival, organised by the APPA animal charity in conjunction with the department of health, has proved a successful way of finding forever homes for dogs and cats currently living in local animal shelters.
APPA President, Vanesa Pareja, explained that "around 50 dogs and cats found a new home in previous years of the festival" and additionally, "the number of volunteers offered as a foster home increased, which is another of the objectives pursued by the festival, in addition to raising awareness of the abandonment and animal abuse.”
A number of fun activities are planned for the day, including a mongrel beauty contest and agility tests, plus children’s entertainment, music and a bar serving food and drinks.
Local businesses have donated prizes for a charity raffle drawn on the day and the day culminates in an emotional parade of the homeless animals with a brief explanation of their history.
The event takes place at the Eucalyptus Park, in the centre of Playa de Albir from 10.00h to 15.00h on Sunday April 7th.
