Scorcher for Carnival
THE region enjoyed some of the best weather in living memory to coincide with this year’s Carnestoltes (carnival) celebrations. In the capital of the Marina Alta, Denia, about 2,000 people attended the Oriental themed event, with the story of Disney’s Mulan being re-enacted in Plaza Valgamedios for all the family. There was also a ballet performance, Chinese New Year dragon and much more as the celebrations went on well into the evening helped by the mild weather. As usual there was also a huge turnout in Pego, one of Spain’s largest Carnestoltes celebrations, especially in the evening when the adults came out to play until the small hours.
