THE Compromis list of political hopefuls for the local elections in Lliber is the first in the Marina Alta to consist entirely of female candidates, as leader Andrea Kruithof is joined by eight other women in the small inland municipality. The opposition PP has a more controversial list which includes two candidates who were heavily involved in the Lliber housing scandal earlier this century as well as Cesar Sanchez, current mayor of Calpe and president of the Diputacion de Alicante.
In what will be regarded by most as another progressive move, the PP in Pedreguer have announced that a candidate with fascist sympathies will not be standing. Pictures emerged of Sergio Fernandez giving a Nazi salute and he has expressed his support in the past for Francoist groups such as Authentic Falange and España 2000. Pedreguer has a large, well integrated immigrant population and mix of cultures and clearly the PP felt that this was not the image they wanted to project.
