Spaniards waiting for weddings

IF the ban on mass gatherings in Spain continues into August, it is estimated that 100,000 weddings will have to be postponed or cancelled, affecting not just the betrothed but also caterers, salons, entertainers and any other small or large businesses involved in the industry. 80% of Spanish weddings take place between April and October and 17,000 have already been affected. A survey shows that 5% are cancelling the event altogether while 48% have moved things to the second half of the year, although there is no certainty that they will be able to go ahead any time during 2020. The remainder are looking for wedding dates next year or have already booked something. Saturday is the preferred day for nuptials, and about 15% have changed to a Friday, Sunday or even weekday as the backlog grows and choices become limited. The situation is also causing a major problem for caterers etc who will go from practically zero celebrations to seeing the floodgates open once restrictions are lifted, putting a strain on staff, especially experienced ones.
